Şükrü Hanioğlu is the Garrett Professor in Foreign Affairs and Professor of Near Eastern Studies in the Department of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University. He received his B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from Istanbul University in 1976 and 1981, respectively, and taught courses at Istanbul, Bosphorus, Michigan (Ann Arbor) Universities, University of Wisconsin (Madison), and University of Chicago before joining Princeton faculty.

He was director of intelligence and news departments. He published Turkish version of France’s Le Monde Diplomatique. He wrote for Gunes daily. He is still the editor-in-chief of Turque Diplomatique, general director of Eurasia Strategic Researches Center based in Istanbul, while he also writes for London-based Asharq Al-Awsat.

He served in Malatya and Eskişehir and retired from the Turkish Air Force in 1996. After his retirement, he founded a private company and continued his business life in construction sector. He is married and has 4 children. Cafer İskenderoğlu speaks English and Arabic.

1997 yılında CNN Türk’ün kurulmasıyla televizyon gazeteciliğine geçen Okur, uzun yıllar TV’de ekonomi haberleri hazırlayıp sundu. Türkiye’de tematik kanallarda ekonomi haberciliğinin önünü açan usta gazeteci haberleri yorumlama tarzıyla izleyicinin dikkatini ‘ekonomi haberlerine’ çekti.

In addition to these special interest areas, he is doing research on the history of the Hittites, and also he is publishing books and articles.
