Jean PİNG ( African Union Chairman of Commission )
He was born in Gabon in 1942. He holds a doctorate in economics from the University of Paris I Panthéon-Sorbonne and two honorary doctorates from the Institute of Diplomacy in China and from the Institute of African Studies and Academy of Sciences in Moscow. He began his professional life as an international civil servant at UNESCO in the Department of External Relations in Paris. From 1978 to 1984, he was Permanent Representative of Gabon to UNESCO. He served as Director of the Cabinet of the President of Gabon until 1990, when he was appointed Minister of Information. He served as the President of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries in 1993. In 1999 he was appointed as the Minister for Foreign Affairs. He is now serving both as the President of the fifty-ninth session of the United Nations General Assembly, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Gabonese Republic since 1999 and a Member of Parliament since 1996. And since February of 2008, he is the head of the Commission of the African Union.
