Turkish Agricultural Credit Cooperatives

By 1863, Agricultural Credit Cooperatives organization established based on “Government Funds” which was established by Midhat Pasha (Governor of Nish). Solidarity and mutualization such as “İmece” and “Ahilik” (Turkish-Islamic Guild) in Turkish culture were tried to move forward by this institution. Agricultural Credit Cooperatives was prepared to become organized vertically by “Agricultural Credit Cooperatives and Associations Act” which is issued in 1972. Agricultural Credit Cooperatives, previously operated under Ziraat Bank but after establishment of the Central Union in 1977, began to serve as an independent farmer organization. Today, it has been working as financing bank.
