Prof. Necmettin ERBAKAN ( Deceased Prime Minister )

Born in 1926, in Sinop. He was graduated from Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at Istanbul Technical University in 1948. He received his PhD from Aachen Technical University in Germany, 1951. He served as Chief Engineer in development of Leopard tanks. He became associated professor in Istanbul Technical University in 1954. He established Gümüş Motor, producing the first domestic motor between 1956 and 1963. He assumed the title of professor in 1965. He produced the first national car by name of “Devrim”. He became the president of Union of Chamber in 1969. He was elected as a member of parliament for Konya in the same year. He founded Milli Nizam Party in 1970 and Milli Selamet Party in 1972. He served as vice Prime Minister in Coalition Government. He defended Cyprus Peace Operation between 1974 and 1978. After 1980 coup, he was suspended form policy officially until 1987. Afterwards, he was elected as president to Refah Party which was founded in 1983. He was reelected as a member of parliament for Konya in 1991. His party won the election in 1995 and he became the prime minister in the coalition government founded after the election. Besides important successes in this process he founded D-8 for cooperation of developing 8 countries. Erbakan who was under political ban after closure of his political party in 1998, was elected as President of Saadet Party in 2010. The leader of Milli Görüş passed away in 2011 and millions bid farewell to Erbakan in Istanbul.
