Şafak PAVEY ( Deputy Chairperson of Republican People’s Party, Member of Parliament )

 

Şafak Pavey, is a Turkish journalist, writer, diplomat and politician. After graduated from Westminster London University Department of International Relations, Ms. Pavey continued her master studies at London Schools of Economics and Politics. She knows four different foreign languages at advance level and two foreign languages at elementary level. Besides, she knows International Sign Language too. She left her position at the United Nations and was elected as a parliamentarian of Istanbul at the 2011 elections in Turkey. She was elected in the general election of 2011 from the Republican People’s Party (CHP) as a parliamentarian from Istanbul Province.

Later, she was appointed one of the party’s deputy chairpersons. Hence, she has become the first disabled female member of the Turkish Parliament. As part of her parliamentary work, she is a member of the Turkey-EU-Accession Committee, EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee, and Euro-Med Parliamentary Assembly for the Mediterranean Union, Euro-Med Sub-Committee on Energy, Water and Environment, Vice-Chair and Member of Turkish Parliamentary Friendship Groups with South Korea and Norway.
