Amin MAALOOF

He was born in 1949, Beirut. After studying economy and sociology, he undertook journalism. Following the civil war in Lebanon in 1975 he quit journalism and immigrated to Paris. Having elements of Eastern culture, his books received awards and recognized as classics. He successfully processed the myths of Asia and Mediterranean cultures with which he is well acquainted. He commented on Ottomans – Turkey in many of his books. He worked as administrator and columnist in various media organs. He still spends most of his time writing books and making analyses and evaluations as to why Eastern nations remain underdeveloped.
