Şule GÜRBÜZ – Recep GÜRGEN ( Dolmabahçe Palace Clock Museum Artists )

Şule Gürbüz was born in Istanbul. She studied art history at Istanbul University and history of philosophy in England. In 1997, she started working at the National Palaces as an art historian, and in the same year, she began to work with Recep Gürgen.

 

Recep Gürgen is a master of clock-repair and has been worked on over 30.000 clocks during the past 40 years. He started his career when he was 12 years old working beside his uncle. When he was 18 years old, he met the famous clockmaker, Wolfgang Mayer and worked with him until 1975. After Mayer retired, Gürgen opened his own workshop.

 

Gürbüz has been working with Gürgen for ten years and learned lots of things. They both have been repairing many clocks in the National Palaces, mostly in the Dolmabahçe Palace, and in several museums.
